About Me

I am licensed as a Psychologist in Texas and Florida, and as part of PsyPact can offer telehealth sessions in the majority of states.

In-person sessions are available at my office in Orange Park, Florida.

Therapy Approaches & Specializations

I use an integrative approach that is conversational, individualized, and grounded in psychological science. My philosophy is to help each person I encounter move toward being their most authentic and loving self. I have training and experience in psychodynamic, relational, systems, cognitive-behavioral, and strengths-based approaches among others. I have specialized in working with LGBTQ+ people / issues throughout my career, and I am a certified Queer and Trans Affirming Professional. I also specialize in seniors / issues of aging. I most commonly work with issues such as grief, anxiety, depression, and relationship concerns.

Professional Interests

My interests are always evolving but include adult development, human diversity and justice, gender, human sexuality, and the processes of healing.

Background

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in August 1994, and my B.A. in Psychology from Rice University in 1984. I taught courses in the St. Edward’s University Master of Arts in Counseling program from 2002-2014. After working several years in college counseling centers, I have been in private practice since 2003, offering individual, relationship, and group psychotherapy to adults of all ages. I have lived in Texas most of my life, and moved to Florida in June 2025. In my free time I enjoy friends and family, dogs and cats, and exploring nature, events and culture everywhere I go

What should I expect during my first visit?

Your initial session includes a thorough assessment to tailor the therapy to your goals and needs, and to offer ideas for possible next steps. I also review with you the key points of our agreement with each other, so this first visit is typically 60-70 minutes. Therapy is a very personal process, and it is important to find a good fit, so that is part of what we will both be assessing. If I do not believe I have the necessary skills to help you, I will say so.
